Blogs are now an extremely popular and important part of the internet. Millions of people blog every day. As blogs have evolved over the years, so has the commenting system. Now anyone can make comments on a particular blog posting. As blog commenting has grown more popular, so has spam commenting. In this newsletter, we’ll go over why comments are a great form of feedback for your blog, how they help the credibility of your content, what spam comments are and how to prevent them from happening.

Comments – A great form of feedback

When blogs first came around, they were simply online journals. No one could post comments on a blog posting. That all changed in 1998 with OpenDiary, a site which allowed people to comment on blog postings. Now every blog, whether it is remotely or self-hosted, includes this option to comment.

Commenting is great because it allows real people to tell you what they think about your form. It gives you feedback on what you are doing right and what you may need to improve. If one of your posts has been up for a couple weeks, close it up.

#2: Take advantage of software offered to prevent comment spam

If you host your own blog using WordPress, you can use an option in that software to prevent spam. Even if you aren’t using WordPress, you can still use other Spam comment blocking software like Spam Karma, Akismet, and Bad Behavior. While these aren’t 100% effective, they have proven to be quite effective in preventing spam from happening.

#3: Take a look at your settings and see what can be tweaked to toughen your protection

If you already have a spam blocker on in your blog and are still experiencing spam, take a closer look at the settings to see if there’s anything that can be tweaked to make your protection stronger. However, if you do this, you should closely monitor your posts to make sure legit comments aren’t being blocked out. If they are, you might have to lighten up a bit.

#4: Regularly read your blog comments

Be sure to keep an eye on your comments. Even the best software or setting can’t prevent everything, so you will have to occasionally manually remove comments on your own.

As your smaller business' network traffic grows, getting faster switches isn't your only option. Jimmy Ray Purser says that paying attention to a network's quality of service -- by classifying packets as they enter your network -- can be just as important


The one thing that any network admin can tell you (besides a massive amount of Star Trek trivia) is the increase in network traffic and users over the years. Networks are like kids: they start small and grow big, then don't listen to what you have to say.



To keep up with the demand, vendors have been building faster switches with deeper buffers every single year. This is an example of Moore's Law at its finest. But is that enough? Of course, any account manager will say yes! Buy more Cisco, problem solved. But a realistic network engineer needs to consider the role quality of service will play in the network. Most people understand how 802.1p works. Diffserv seems to be the big unknown in the world of QoS.

The real term is differentiated services, but the alpha geek crowd just says diffserv. Diffserv is concerned with classifying packets as they enter the local network. This classification then applies to a flow of traffic where a flow is defined by five elements:

Source IP address
Destination IP
Source port
Destination port
Transport Protocol
A flow that has been classified or marked can then be acted upon by other QoS mechanisms. Multiple flows can therefore be dealt with in a multitude of ways, depending on the requirements of each flow: voice this way and data that way and so on.

Diffserv uses a code point (the cool way to say this is DSCP) to determine the per-hop behavior of the flow. There are 64 total DSCP values. They range from 0 through 63. Remember that a high DSCP value is not equal to a high QoS queue. However, understand that in the assured forwarded (more to come) there are three drop probabilities. The DSCP determines the per-hop behavior (PHB) of a flow.

The content of your website can determine the success of your website. For SEO purpose, we must make sure the content that we have on our website appeal to human visitors and Google robots alike. It is useless to have 100 keywords in a single page, because that will never work.
It would be wiser to create 100 pages with contents that revolve only around one keyword instead. With the latent semantic indexing, search engine are able to identify content that are built just for the sake of getting high ranking for certain keywords. You obviously don't want to be one of these people.
Search engines like Google place higher priority on websites that are filled with quality contents because they know no one will be happy to have junk websites listed as one of their search results.
One of the secret to have a better search engine position is simply by targeting keywords with lesser search volumes. These keywords usually have lesser competition and that makes them easier to target.
Just imagine if you have 50 pages of contents that are targeting these keywords and each of these keywords is pulling in 20 to 50 daily searches. That means you have at least 1000 daily traffic from daily searches from these keywords alone!
It's better to have high ranking for 50 keywords in a month instead of focusing all your effort to get a keyword that pulls in 3000 daily searches that takes 3 to 4 months to rank. It's a no brainer!
