Virus Email

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

Virus authors adapted to the changing computing environment by creating the e-mail virus. For example, the Melissa virus in March 1999 was spectacular. Melissa spread in Microsoft Word documents sent via e-mail, and it worked like this:

Someone created the virus as a Word document and uploaded it to an Internet newsgroup. Anyone who downloaded the document and opened it would trigger the virus. The virus would then send the document (and therefore itself) in an e-mail message to the first 50 people in the person's address book. The e-mail message contained a friendly note that included the person's name, so the recipient would open the document, thinking it was harmless. The virus would then create 50 new messages from the recipient's machine. At that rate, the Melissa virus quickly became the fastest-spreading virus anyone had seen at the time. As mentioned earlier, it forced a number of large companies to shut down their e-mail systems.

The ILOVEYOU virus, which appeared on May 4, 2000, was even simpler. It contained a piece of code as an attachment. People who double-clicked on the attachment launched the code. It then sent copies of itself to everyone in the victim's address book and started corrupting files on the victim's machine. This is as simple as a virus can get. It is really more of a Trojan horse distributed by e-mail than it is a virus.

The Melissa virus took advantage of the programming language built into Microsoft Word called VBA, or Visual Basic for Applications. It is a complete programming language and it can be programmed to do things like modify files and send e-mail messages. It also has a useful but dangerous auto-execute feature. A programmer can insert a program into a document that runs instantly whenever the document is opened. This is how the Melissa virus was programmed. Anyone who opened a document infected with Melissa would immediately activate the virus. It would send the 50 e-mails, and then infect a central file called NORMAL.DOT so that any file saved later would also contain the virus. It created a huge mess.

Computer Software Microsoft applications have a feature called Macro Virus Protection built into them to prevent this sort of virus. With Macro Virus Protection turned on (the default option is ON), the auto-execute feature is disabled. So when a document tries to auto-execute viral code, a dialog pops up warning the user. Unfortunately, many people don't know what macros or macro viruses are, and when they see the dialog they ignore it, so the virus runs anyway. Many other people turn off the protection mechanism. So the Melissa virus spread despite the safeguards in place to prevent it.

In the case of the ILOVEYOU virus, the whole thing was human-powered. If a person double-clicked on the program that came as an attachment, then the program ran and did its thing. What fueled this virus was the human willingness to double-click on the executable.

Strange as it may sound, the computer virus is something of an Information Age marvel. On one hand, viruses show us how vulnerable we are -- a properly engineered virus can have a devastating effect, disrupting productivity and doing billions of dollars in damages. On the other hand, they show us how sophisticated and interconnected human beings have become.
For example, experts estimate that the Mydoom worm infected approximately a quarter-million computers in a single day in January 2004. Back in March 1999, the Melissa virus was so powerful that it forced Microsoft and a number of other very large companies to completely turn off their e-mail systems until the virus could be contained. The ILOVEYOU virus in 2000 had a similarly devastating effect. In January 2007, a worm called Storm appeared -- by October, experts believed up to 50 million computers were infected. That's pretty impressive when you consider that many viruses are incredibly simple.
When you listen to the news, you hear about many different forms of electronic infection. The most common are:
Viruses - A virus is a small piece of software that piggybacks on real programs. For example, a virus might attach itself to a program such as a spreadsheet program. Each time the spreadsheet program runs, the virus runs, too, and it has the chance to reproduce (by attaching to other programs) or wreak havoc.
E-mail viruses - An e-mail virus travels as an attachment to e-mail messages, and usually replicates itself by automatically mailing itself to dozens of people in the victim's e-mail address book. Some e-mail viruses don't even require a double-click -- they launch when you view the infected message in the preview pane of your e-mail software [source: Johnson].
Trojan horses - A Trojan horse is simply a computer program. The program claims to do one thing (it may claim to be a game) but instead does damage when you run it (it may erase your hard disk). Trojan horses have no way to replicate automatically.
Worms - A worm is a small piece of software that uses computer networks and security holes to replicate itself. A copy of the worm scans the network for another machine that has a specific security hole. It copies itself to the new machine using the security hole, and then starts replicating from there, as well.
In this article, we will discuss viruses -- both "traditional" viruses and e-mail viruses -- so that you can learn how they work and understand how to protect yourself.

Free Movie Download online

By: Ben Levanger

Free movie downloads online are the best alternative if you are planning to start a library with your favorite movies. Several websites now extend movie download services to internet users, and the movies offered include both old and new ones. These free movie downloads online can be accessed from anywhere at any time if you have a proper internet connection. There are mainly two types of services available for free movie downloads online. One is the P2P application that offers different pay schemes where movies are downloaded with the help of BitTorrent services. Sites using the P2P application facilitate movie downloads for lifetime, wherein the user has to pay a one time registration fee. Usually the registration fees range between 14 and 60 dollars. In these sites downloadable movies are provided to users through a file sharing network. These sites also provide free games, music and software downloads. These movie sites provide downloads using P2P network, and also through direct downloading from databases. The second type of service is that which charges a fee for downloading each movie or unlimited download of movies on a monthly subscription. Using a P2P network you can download a variety of items, whereas in direct downloading from database, your choices are limited. Direct downloading from databases is faster than downloading from a P2P network. When considering free movie downloads online, it is important to ensure that they are legal. The movie selections of legal sites belong to the owners of the site and they are licensed to hold it. This means that all movies in legal sites can be safely used. Legal movie sites might naturally have a lesser collection of movies than an illegal site. Free movie downloads online provided by illegal websites are often pirated copies. These movies violate individual copyrights, and handling these movies is punishable as per law. Additionally, these pirated movies very often have poor picture quality. Accessing illegal free movie downloads online can also harm your computer because of the possible presence of spyware and viruses in these illegal sites. Movie buffs can safely download DVD quality movies from legal sites at economical rates. You can get fantasy movies, detective movies, comic movies and more. Even old classic black and white movies are available in some sites. Browse the web and find a legal website offering free movie downloads online. Make your experience with free movie downloads online a pleasurable one by utilizing the services of reliable websites.

Net-market Terms P-3

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

Your cache is full and your CSS sheets are cascading into your CGI and your CPM is compressed by your CPC!
Internet Marketing is full of jargon designed to confuse and mystify a beginner. You can learn the old fashioned way through trial and error, or you can cheat and skip a chapter and read the Internet Marketing Jargon Buster from Lama Kalla. This article will explain some more of the common jargon.
Click
A click is where someone clicks on something - very simple - whether you click on an advert, a banner, or something else.
Click Through Rate
The number of clicks on a particular advert, i.e. how many people click through to your site. This is very important for you as an Internet Marketer. Why? Because you need to know how well your adverts are working. If you have a low click through rate then you may need to tweak your adverts or maybe even advertise in a different place. It might be that the place you are advertising in just isn't suitable for your product.
ClickBank,
Clickbank is an online marketplace with a huge catalog of products from a wide variety of publishers. It handles payments from customers and payments to affiliates. Clickbank is very much favored by Internet marketers because it is a fire and forget system. You can set up a website for your product, list it on Clickbank and then sit back and relax. Potential affiliates can pick up your product and sell it with no input from you. As they handle all the payments, all you need to do is receive the money and enjoy.
Conversion Rate
The conversion rate is how well your advert / website / sales letter converts, i.e. how many people who view your advert or visit your site go on to purchase your product. You need to know this because it has a big impact on your business. Firstly, it tells you how well your adverts are working, and secondly you can calculate from this how much you can afford to pay for your adverts.
There is a lot of jargon in the Internet Marketing world, and it's important for you to understand them in order to achieve the success you so desire.
How can you find out what all these weird and wonderful terms mean?

Search Engine Position Strategy

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

The content of your website can determine the success of your website. For SEO purpose, we must make sure the content that we have on our website appeal to human visitors and Google robots alike. It is useless to have 100 keywords in a single page, because that will never work.
It would be wiser to create 100 pages with contents that revolve only around one keyword instead. With the latent semantic indexing, search engine are able to identify content that are built just for the sake of getting high ranking for certain keywords. You obviously don't want to be one of these people.
Search engines like Google place higher priority on websites that are filled with quality contents because they know no one will be happy to have junk websites listed as one of their search results.
One of the secret to have a better search engine position is simply by targeting keywords with lesser search volumes. These keywords usually have lesser competition and that makes them easier to target.
Just imagine if you have 50 pages of contents that are targeting these keywords and each of these keywords is pulling in 20 to 50 daily searches. That means you have at least 1000 daily traffic from daily searches from these keywords alone!
It's better to have high ranking for 50 keywords in a month instead of focusing all your effort to get a keyword that pulls in 3000 daily searches that takes 3 to 4 months to rank. It's a no brainer!

Free For All Sites

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

For those of you who don't know what an FFA site is, it's basically a website where you can post a link/add to your website for free. Generally it is also posted to many other sites at the same time and hopefully somebody sees your link...free advertising in other words. This also creates backlinks to your website. When you post a link, you are also giving permission (whether you know it or not) to receive confirmation e-mails back from the site owner. What seems to happen though is many people see this as free advertising and get angry when, not only do they not see a flood of sales come pouring in, but they start receiving other people's offers. I know when the first time it happened to me, I couldn't figure out what was going on and was frustrated at the results. Let's back up a moment and look at the bigger picture of what an FFA site is and its TRUE purpose. The true purpose of an FFA site is for the owner of that site to promote his/her business. It's really not just because he's a nice guy giving people a free advertising place. (If it were such a goldmine for pulling in sales, he would be doing it himself). That is just the bait, getting people to his site to post their links, thinking they are getting free advertising, so he can respond with "confirmation" of your link, and his business ad. Those confirmation e-mails are NOT spam. You had to agree to receive them in order to post your link. Who are reading these ads anyway? So is posting to FFA's a total waste of time? Not necessarily, you do get an occasional sale, people do go back to post their links and sometimes take a quick look through the links to see what's there while they're at it. So what's the answer? Get your own FFA site to promote your business. There are many excellent resources out there. I have found from personal experience however, that many of the services offering FFA's sites, offer a free version or a paid upgrade. The phrase "You get what you pay for" comes to mind with these. I've used several kinds and found that the paid upgrades more than paid for themselves in sales. Shop around however to compare between companies. You can promote any product through this method; information products, crafts, vitamins, whatever. You could have the very best on the entire internet, but if nobody sees your offer, it's not going to get the sales you desire. It takes traffic to get sales. These sites are options for driving those numbers to your site. Free classified ads sites are also in this same category with the same purpose and can be worth pursuing.

How to Improve Your Broadband Speed

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

With so much information flying around about broadband, it is not surprising that users are becoming slightly confused about what they should expect from their deals. Here are a few answers to the most commonly asked questions.
One of the most common questions is why speeds do not match up with the speed they were promised when they signed up to the original deal. The answer is simple, connection speeds will vary considerably depending on the time of day you use it. Evenings are the busiest times as this is when most home users will be on the internet downloading and uploading.
Speeds will also vary depending on the item that you are downloading. Films require a lot longer to complete than a song would for example as the file is larger. As more people use their broadband to call friends and family abroad VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) which includes Skype has become very popular but takes longer and needs fast connections to use.
Tidying up your computer will also help improve the speed. As you surf and download your way through the internet, many files and viruses can find their way into your hard drive and simply erasing these can improve your connection speed. Many people compare broadband speeds but it is important to give yourself every chance of having those speeds and eliminating your computer of viruses is a must. You may want to get an expert to come and do this for you to ensure it is done thoroughly.
It is very frustrating for customers when the speeds they receive do not match the speed quoted to them by the operator. Asking the provider what the maximum and minimum speeds possible will give you a better indication as to what to expect from your broadband. The broadband speed test allows you to get an idea of the connection speeds in your area and once you know that, you can start to compare the various deals.
To ensure you get the most out of your broadband deal and achieve the fastest speeds, make sure your computer is free of viruses and unwanted files. Take the broadband speed test and find the speeds you should be getting and afterwards compare broadband deals from the leading providers.

Music via Broadband

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

It's no big secret that the way we listen to music has changed vastly over the last few years.
The emergence of bigger and better mp3 players has led to a surge in music downloads, even going so far as to shape the way music charts are compiled.
More of us now have access to a broadband connection, and many bands are now tapping into the online market in order to get their voices heard and records sold.
Record companies are making use of a wide variety of media and retail in order to get their artists heard - and now music is available to download from a range of different outlets - from your own PC to high street record shops.
Free downloads, offers with broadband packages and exclusive tracks are just some of the ways in which music corporations and independent artists are attempting to make our ears perk up and take notice of their material.
Social networking sites have also played a huge part in making music more widely available to the masses. Unsigned bands can now post material to pages which are viewed by thousands each day, offering the chance to download new material after hearing a short preview.
Such influence is now spreading to the mass media, with radio stations and indie television shows that specialise in undiscovered talent seeing increasing viewing and listening figures.
As the software and price war continues in the world of mp3 players - consumers now have access to a wide range of players of differing sizes (both in the player itself and how much data it can store)
Music stores have played a huge part in making downloadable music available to the consumer, with some predicting that receiving music down a broadband line could eventually signal the end of the physical CD single, normally available in the shops themselves.
And with many joining forces with the record companies in order to offer exclusive content on a range of bands, music fans and consumers alike appear to be going through a boom time.
As the world of downloadable music continues to grow, consumers could soon find themselves able to download that exclusive track from your favourite band during your weekly shopping trip in future.
Looking for better broadband? Perform a broadband speed test and compare broadband providers to find a deal that suits you.

Suwangga friend Tips

My advice is comes from my personal experience and previous testing of many of the spyware removal programs out there. First of all understanding the difference between Viruses & Spayware: If you are currently running a very popular virus protection software like Norton or McAffee and believe that your software will do the 'complete' job then you are completely mistaken. We have run a complete virus check on a particular PC and have found nothing. After the scan has been complete we have immediately run a Spyware scan and have found hundreds of Spyware infections on the same PC. This confuses the majority of people due to the fact that both viruses and spyware seem to be the same. Viruses... Some viruses are programmed to damage the computer by damaging programs, deleting files, or reformatting the hard disk. Others are not designed to do any damage, but simply replicate themselves and perhaps make their presence known by presenting text, video, or audio messages. Even these benign viruses can create problems for the computer user. They typically take up computer memory used by legitimate programs. As a result, they often cause erratic behavior and can result in system crashes. In addition, many viruses are bug-ridden, and these bugs may lead to system crashes and data loss. Spyware... Spyware programs can collect various types of personal information, such as Internet surfing habit, sites that have visited, but can also interfere with user control of the computer in other ways, such as installing additional software, redirecting Web browser activity, accessing websites blindly that will cause more harmful viruses, or diverting advertising revenue to a third party. Spyware can even change computer settings, resulting in slow connection speeds, different home pages, and loss of Internet or other programs From testing all the differnt software out there the following seem to be the most popular - spyware doctor - adaware pro - counterspy - spyware sweeper But the best by far is Spybot search and destroy by safer-networking. First of all run this program with the internet turned off and after a fresh reboot. When you do run this for the first time, dont be alarmed at the amount of infections that it finds and that your virus protection has completely missed. After scanning which usually takes 20-30mins, spybot 'may' ask you to reboot and rescan. If this is the case then do so. The reason for this is because some of the spyware infections can not be removed at the time of that scan because they are currently running and need to be shut off to remove. Once completed reboot again and you will find your PC will be running so much faster. I hope this helps someone out there Regards Lee You can visit us at the http://www.easyPC.co.uk Great Links http://www.download.com

GPS Mobile Technology

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

In recent times there have been some tremendous advances in the technology behind GPS (Global Positioning Satellites), and now this exciting technology is available to the general public. There are many uses for GPS, but the particular use we will be looking at in this article is its benefits for the motorist.
The in-car system comprises of an easily mounted small unit which you attach to your windscreen or place on your dashboard. The great benefit is that once you have the unit installed in your car, you just key in your required destination, it will then give you turn by turn directions by voice and in real time.
This is extremely useful for any travelers who are in an unfamiliar area, which of course applies to most of us at one time or another. Nearly all car rental firms are now installing GPS units in their entire fleet of vehicles as an aid to their customers, and of course this also has advantages for them.
Another benefit is that if you are unfortunate enough to have your GPS equipped vehicle stolen, the authorities can pinpoint the exact location of it with ease. There are several insurance companies that will offer you a discount if your car is fitted with GPS.
A lot of GPS systems on the market come equipped with monitoring services, which can help with roadside assistance, and help in any emergency situation. The in-car system has the capability to be automatically programmed to call the nearest 911 operator if an accident occurs.
The good thing is that as these services utilize satellites, the signal will never suffer any interruption no matter you may be. So you can see what a valuable piece of equipment an in-car GPS unit can be, as it is available 24/7. So, if you ever find yourself in an emergency situation, you will be glad you invested in this piece of technology and have piece of mind!

Laptop vs Desktop Free Info

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

Is a laptop better than a desk top why would i buy a desktop thats in one spot all the time ? Naturally, a desktop computer is more powerful, expandable, and cheaper than a laptop. But you can't take carry it around with you, because the leads wont reach and its rather heavy
On the other hand, you could be sitting in a pub garden or a trendy coffee shop, having a drink while pouring over your e-mail and chatting on a mobile phone - now that's the way to go. Why you need a laptop Basically you want a laptop for one of the following reasons:
As your main computer Why bother about saving money with a desktop when you really want the portability of a laptop? A desktop computer can't pretend to be a laptop, but a laptop can certainly pretend being a desktop: You can use a full-sized keyboard and monitor with your laptop. You can also connect any number of desktop peripherals such as a printer, scanner, external hard drive, and so on. But, unlike a desktop system, you're free to disconnect the laptop and take it with you whenever you want.
As a space-saving computer system; Unlike desktops, you don't need to have a set place for your laptop computer - that is, you don't need a computer desk. If space is tight in your house, flat, or collage room, keep the laptop on the shelf or in a drawer. Then set it up on the kitchen table or coffee table when you're ready to work. Forget about the constant mess and clutter that orbits the typical desktop computer station!
As a second computer; Why buy a second desktop computer when you can get a laptop and enjoy not only the presence of a second computer but the ability to make that computer system portable? Further, you can network the two computers together, letting them share an Internet connection, printers, data, and files. But you still have the luxury of having one portable system. As your on-the-road computer; Laptops let you take your work on the road great for the salesman, delivery driver, courier. After a few moments of synch (transferring current files between your desktop and laptop), you're off and running to anywhere you like (though being in direct, bright daylight can make it difficult to see the laptop screen). When you return from your trip, just perform another synch, and you catch up both computers for the day. A laptop can give you the freedom to take your work with you: Laptops let you escape the confines of your office and do work anywhere you like for a few hours. Or if you have power at your location, you can plug in and work all day.
The laptop lets you take your work with you when you travel.as most motels/hotels have wifi connections
Why you don't need a laptop Laptops aren't cheap. They're also expensive to fix. They can easily get stolen. The battery life never lives up to the printed specifications. You may find getting work done on a jet or in a caf really difficult because people either look over your shoulder or ask you questions about the laptop. Ack! But you may think that those minor quibbles don't outweigh the benefits of owning a laptop.

Make Your PC Going Faster

Posted by Telkompedia team

After years of trials and tribulations, I've finally come up with a system to get my computer running very fast and efficiently. Here's how I do it, feel free to follow if you feel your computer and/or laptop (for the purpose of this article the term "Computer" stands for both) doesn't work as fast as you think its capable of given your RAM, CPU, Operating System, Hard Drive and Internet Connection. Many of these programs I've listed below, do the same or similar functions but I've found they get different results and I get the best results when I use them together in the order shown below. I do the following steps with the following software, every time I either reboot my computer, add or delete a program or if I feel the computer isn't working as fast as I think it should be:

1. I click on (TuneUp Utilities) 1 -Click Maintenance which quickly cleans up your registry and hard drive with one click. 1-Click Maintenance is part of this software and is the basic application I use from it.

2. I then use (Sammsoft) Advanced Registry Optimizer and click Scan and Fix Registry Now which further scans and fixes Errors

3. Then (PC Tools) Registry Mechanic and click Scan Your Registry which Deep Scans your registry for problems and corrects them.

4, I then repeat step one and use 1- Click Maintenance again

5. Finally, I use (Uniblue) Speed Up My PC which automatically optimizes your computer for maximum performance. It increases my broadband internet downloading speed greatly. This is a 2 step process involving a scan and optimization in the Overview (first page) section. I recommend you should also check Internet for Optimization all the time even if its blank.

I'd also recommend every time you add or delete a program you review what's checked on MSCONFIG if you have XP- I'm not sure what the equivalent is on Vista, and uncheck everything that isn't necessary at start-up, as the more items you have checked, the slower your computer performs. I only have 2 things checked on my computer, my anti-virus program and Google Web Accelerator. When you initially buy a computer, everything is checked for start-up. For those unfamilar with MSCONFIG, just put MSCONFIG on Run, click it and see what's checked on the furthest tab on the right marked "Startup" and delete the items checked that you don't feel are necessary during Start-Up. As noted above, I only have 2 items checked.

I also use (Webroot)Window Washer which deletes my Internet Cache (including Firefox) as well as other items, at least once a day and if I feel like the internet is running a tad slow.

Share file on web

Posted by Telkompedia team

Online share files websites let you upload and share files of any size with friends and colleagues. If you have ever wanted to share files between computers you will know how difficult it is to move big files, with files too big for email, and USB memory devices requiring that you physically share the USB device with another person, difficult if they are not local to you. What is the modern solution to this problem which is becoming more of an issue as file sizes get bigger and more people become remote users working from home or traveling between offices.

Some companies setup complicated network access for home users which can be difficult to use and ties the user to one computer or laptop, for a modern solution we need a way of sharing our files no matter what computer we find ourselves working in front of.

If your files are small enough you can email them to your colleagues, and receive files the same way, but after a time it becomes difficult to manage all the files you have been sent, online share files websites remove all these issues. With online share files websites offering 2GB of free storage that's a lot of files and backups, more space can be purchased if required. You can store data, music and photos dragging and dropping files and folders between the online share and your own computer.

Share files and folders and automatically back up your files daily and weekly.

Users can also use the online share files websites to backup their computers, with automated daily and weekly backup schedules setup, the backing up of files happens automatically, and you never need worry that your important documents are not backed up and secure. With instant retrieval of your documents should you need to restore the data from your backup.

You can learn more about sharing files for free here:

iPhone Movies

Are you ready to start watching full length iPhone movies, but you don't know how. There are several ways to download and watch iPhone movies. Some are better than others. You should know the basics before doing anything.

1. Pick your iPhone movie download service carefully:

You need to first find a service that offers iPhone movie downloads. You want to read up on each before making a decision of which one you will use. You should read the stats provided by the site. You should also read the reviews on each site. This might be the best insight to download quality.

2. Monthly or one time:

The iPhone movie download service that you choose should be a one time fee. There are several sites that offer monthly fees or pay per download, but that is unnecessary. You should join the iPhone movie download site that has a one time fee. This is all about bang for your buck.

3. Know what you are getting into when downloading iPhone movies:

The iphone download site that you choose will more than likely allow you download movies using BitTorrents. Usually just called torrents, your site supports you downloading iPhone movies from other peers on the network. WImax Definitions

Posted by Telkompedia team

WiMAX, the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology aimed at providing wireless data over long distances in a variety of ways, from point-to-point links to full mobile cellular type access. It is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, which is also called WirelessMAN. WiMAX allows a user, for example, to browse the Internet on a laptop computer without physically connecting the laptop to a router, hub or switch via an Ethernet cable. The name WiMAX was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformance and interoperability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL."
Definitions of terms
The terms "fixed WiMAX", "mobile WiMAX", "802.16d" and "802.16e" are frequently used incorrectly.[1] Correct definitions are:
802.16d
Strictly speaking, It has never existed as a standard. The standard is correctly called 802.16-2004. However, since this standard is frequently called 802.16d, that term is also used in this article to assist readability.
802.16e
Just as 802.16d has never existed, a standard called 802.16e hasn't either. It is an amendment to 802.16-2004, and so is not a standard in its own right. It is properly referred to as 802.16e-2005.
Fixed WiMAX
This is a phrase frequently used to refer to systems built using 802.16-2004 ('802.16d') and the OFDM PHY as the air interface technology.
Mobile WiMAX
A phrase frequently used to refer to systems built using 802.16e-2005 and the OFDMA PHY as the air interface technology. "Mobile WiMAX" implementations are therefore frequently used to deliver pure fixed services. The bandwidth and reach of WiMAX make it suitable for the following potential applications:
• Connecting Wi-Fi hotspots with each other and to other parts of the Internet.
• Providing a wireless alternative to cable and DSL for last mile (last km) broadband access.
• Providing high-speed data and telecommunications services.
• Providing a diverse source of Internet connectivity as part of a business continuity plan. That is, if a business has a fixed and a wireless Internet connection, especially from unrelated providers, they are unlikely to be affected by the same service outage.
• Providing nomadic connectivity.
Broadband access
Many companies are closely examining WiMAX for "last mile" connectivity at high data rates. The resulting competition may bring lower pricing for both home and business customers, or bring broadband access to places where it has been economically unavailable. Prior to WiMAX, many operators have been using proprietary fixed wireless technologies for broadband services.

WiMAX access was used to assist with communications in Aceh, Indonesia, after the tsunami in December 2004. All communication infrastructure in the area, other than Ham Radio, was destroyed, making the survivors unable to communicate with people outside the disaster area and vice versa. WiMAX provided broadband access that helped regenerate communication to and from Aceh.

Interdependency Bussines

Posted by Telkompedia team 0 comments

The best role of business online is that of interdependency. We’ve all heard the old saying, “No man is an island.” When it comes to online business this is especially true.

If a business owner who takes their business into the online world determines they will be self reliant and never accept the help of anyone then that individual will not be in business long enough to change their minds.

It is accepted fact that the greatest tool for long-term exposure to your website is through Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Without it potential customers can’t find you. It is unreasonable to expect that you can adequately develop a website without optimizing your website for the best possible search engine ranking.

Search engines also place a high value on sites that have links placed on existing sites. These ‘backlinks’ demonstrate to search engines that others trust your site. By placing your link on their website these other businesses indicate a trust and recommendation for your site.

In effect the two strategies listed above rely exclusively on what others can do for you when it comes to your online business.

Shirley Temple once proclaimed in her movie Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, “I’m very self-reliant.” American westerns are filled with lines dealing with pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and holding down the fort. Many of us have grown up to believe if we want something done right we have to do it ourselves.

This thinking is in opposition to the rules associated with an online business.

The online world can only exist because people share. Individuals share technology, but the also share links, reviews, blogs, forums and a wide range of other marketing strategies that find a commingling of interdependency.

In online business you are as dependent on others as they may be on you. Unlike the word ‘dependent’, the term interdependent indicates a mutual dependency. In other words you are depending on others to help provide links back to your site while they are equally dependent on you (or others) for the success of their business.

Have you really taken a proactive approach to networking? It’s possible you are reading this today and you’ve never considered asking someone else to place a link to your site on his or her online business site.

It can feel awkward depending on others to achieve online success especially if you’ve been lead to believe reliance on others is also a sign of imposing on their otherwise brilliant generosity.

I suppose it could be a deep-seated sense of pride that makes it hard to consider the need to ask others for help. However, the truth is depending on others is really what has made the Internet possible. The growth of this online world is comprised of a link of computers, networks and servers that are connected in a way that provides the maximum benefit for all.

Building an online business can feel a bit like trying to build a house of cards. Without the ability to rely on the other ‘cards’ around you it is virtually impossible to build.

Interdependence. This is the essence of online business.

About RSS feed

Posted by Telkompedia team

RSS is an abbreviation that has evolved into the following, depending on their versions:

• RDF Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.9; the first version of RSS)
• Rich Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.91; a prototype)
• Really Simple Syndication (also known as RSS 2.0)

Today, RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication', and it has the following 7 existing formats or versions:

• 0.90
• 0.91
• 0.92
• 0.93
• 0.94
• 1.0
• 2.0

RSS tools refer to a group of file formats that are designed to share headlines and other web content (this may be a summary or simply 1 to 2 lines of the article), links to the full versions of the content (the full article or post), and even file attachments such as multimedia files. All of these data is delivered in the form of an XML file (XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language), which has the following common names:

• RSS feed
• Webfeed
• RSS stream
• RSS channel

They are typically shown on web pages as an orange rectangle that usually has the letters XML or RSS in it.

RSS feeds can be used to deliver any kind of information. Some of these 'feeds' include:

• Blogs feed - each blog entry is summarized as a feed item. This makes blog posts easier to scan, enabling 'visitors' to zoom in on their items of interest.

• Article feed - this alerts readers whenever there are new articles and web contents available.

• Forum feed - this allows users to receive forum posts and latest discussion topics.

• Schedule feed - this allows users (such as schools, clubs, and other organizations) to broadcast events and announce schedule changes or meeting agendas.

• Discounts or Special feed - this is used to enable users (such as retail and online stores) to 'deliver' latest specials and discounted offers.

• Ego or News Monitoring - this enables users to receive 'filtered' headlines or news that are based on a specific phrase or keyword.

• Industry-specific feed - used by technical professionals in order to market, promote, or communicate with current (and prospective) customers and clients within their specific industries.

RSS feeds enable people to track numerous blogs and news sources at the same time. To produce an RSS feed, all you need is the content or the article that you want to publicize and a validated RSS text file. Once your text file is registered at various aggregators (or 'news readers'), any external site can then capture and display your RSS feed, automatically updating them whenever you update your RSS file.

RSS tools are useful for sites that add or modify their contents on a regular basis. They are especially used for 'web syndication' or activities that involve regular updates and/or publications, such as the following:

• News websites - as used by major news organizations such as Reuters, CNN, and the BBC.
• Marketing
• Bug reports
• Personal weblogs

There are many benefits to using RSS feeds. Aside from being a great supplemental communication method that streamlines the communication needs of various sectors, RSS tools and feeds can also have tremendous benefits in your business, particularly in the field of internet marketing.

RSS tools and feeds provide Internet users with a free (or cheap) and easy advertising or online marketing opportunity for their businesses. Below are some of the RSS features that can help make your internet marketing strategies more effective.

1. Ease in content distribution services. With RSS, your business can be captured and displayed by virtually any external site, giving you an easy way to 'spread out' and advertise them.

2. Ease in regular content updates. With RSS, web contents concerning your business can now be automatically updated on a daily (and even hourly) basis. Internet users will be able to experience 'real time' updates as information in your own file (such as new products and other business-related releases) is changed and modified simultaneously with that of the RSS feeds that people are subscribed to.

3. Custom-made content services. With RSS, visitors can have personalized content services, allowing them total control of the flow and type of information that they receive. Depending on their interests and needs, visitors can subscribe to only those contents that they are looking for (such as real estate or job listings).

4. Increase in (and targeted) traffic. With RSS, traffic will be directed to your site as readers of your content summary (or 1 to 2 lines of your article) who find them interesting are 'forced' to click on a link back to your site.

These are just several of the many things that you can do with RSS. The possibilities are endless, and they are all aimed at providing you with an effective internet marketing strategy for your business.

GPS, How it works

Posted by Telkompedia team

The Global Positioning System (GPS) was funded, developed and controlled by the US Department of Defense. Since the late seventies, GPS has become an important aid to navigation around the world. Initially designed for the US military, GPS became publicly available years later and it is now considered an important feature in lots of consumer products.

How does GPS work? Well, basically there are three elements that make everything work: satellites, earth monitoring stations and receivers (ex: cell phone, telefone celular). GPS provides specially coded satellite signals that can be processed in a GPS receiver, enabling the receiver to compute position, velocity and time.

Today, most cell phones (telefone celular) are not limited to carry on just a conversation. Features like mp3 player, digital camera and video camera have all become standards in the latest cell phone models. It is expected that the GPS feature will soon be added to this list, and it will offer the capability of tracking any cell phone user.

The capability of tracking a cell phone user becomes important in emergency situations, like a car accident, thru the use of 911 emergency phone call, where every minute may be a matter of life or death. In situation like this, the GPS system may pinpoint the exact location of the road accident, enabling emergency services to be quickly dispatched.

It is important to mention that so far most GPS system in cell phone (telefone celular) is restricted to tracking information only. However, one can have navigational capability thru the use of full screen cell phone/PDA combos with map displays and other cellular phone accessories, and third party paid services. If one does not want to sign up for a monthly paid subscription service, he can make use of one-time-paid-only software programs that will enable some of the navigational capabilities.

Although there are many benefits in using GPS cell phones (telefone celular), there are some people who are concerned about the violation of personal privacy. Since the US Congress has not authorized location tracking without actual evidence of wrongdoing, there have been court hearings which have not approved the requests of government agencies in obtaining the cell phone GPS tracking information for suspects or ordinary citizens.

This privacy matter has made some progress towards the cell phone user`s rights, since there are some laws that have been passed which guarantees that GPS cell phone users will have some protection from the release of the tracking information, with the exception of 911 emergency cell phone calls (telefone celular). It is expected that these laws will guarantee that the benefits of GPS in cell phones will be enjoyed by everyone without infringing anybody`s privacy.

Sometimes when there is a technological innovation, there are also some concerns about privacy or some rights infringements. But no matter how much of a concern this is, it seems that a compromise will always have to be reached, so that new technologies will take their places in everyone`s lives. After all, we all live in a globalized consumer world. By the way, have you already got your GPS cell phone?

Cable Modem Speed

Posted by Telkompedia team

There was a time, not too far in the distant past, when people were just happy to be connected to the Internet. They would sit down at their computers, visit with online friends around the globe, play their games or do what ever they found to do on the Internet. Some where along the way however, just as with the automobile the need for speed took hold and the rest is history.

Do You Want More Speed?

So what is Internet service speed anyway and what does it mean for you? If all that you do is chat, email and shop online should you really care about your Internet service speed? This is a question that you have to answer yourself, because for some people speed when they are online is a necessity, while for others it is merely an option.

A Precise Test

A cable modem speed test is given by an online service that not only will determine your Internet services actual speed, but they can also offer assistence in upgrading it. They do the test be sending your computer a data file that is first downloaded and then immediately uploaded back to them. The whole process is timed to see precisely how long it takes.

How Fast Are You Right Now?

Everyone from gamers, to online shoppers, to Internet business people, or anyone with standard dial up service that is just tired of waiting for things to happen online can use more speed. Even if you have the latest in broadband cable high speed service technology you still can get things moving a little more faster with new software that is now available. The first step that you need to take in your quest for more speed, is to take an online cable modem speed test to see where you are at right now.

Internet Speed Test

Posted by Telkompedia team

Make no mistake about it, speed is everything in this day and age. This fixation with speed has now transferred over to the Internet as well and it seems that nothing on the net now is ever fast enough. So how fast is your Internet service anyway? Is is up to your standards? These are a few of the questions that more and more web users are asking themselves and an Internet speed test is a great way to find out.

Download and Upload Data Transfer Rate

There are two components that actually determine your Internet speed and they are your upload and your download rate of data transfer. Both of these functions are measured in kilobits per second, but it is the download function that tends to be the most important, simply due to the fact that it is the function that is most often used by a person on their computer.

Newer is Better

The old way of testing Internet speed was pretty straight forward. A file of a known size was transferred and as it was done the time it took to do so was recorded and it was as simple as that. There is a new way however, that is far more accurate and also far less time consuming.

Increase Your Speed

It is done through an online service. What the service does, is to send your computer a package of data that your computer then sends back to them. In this way an accurate reading of your actual Internet speed is ascertained. Why do you need to know your Internet speed? Once you know your Internet speed then you can Begin to take actions to increase it. As you do these things, then you can go back to recheck your Internet speed to gage any improvements that have, or have not taken place.

About WIMAX

Posted by Telkompedia team

Apparently Intel swears by it, but does anyone else really care? We are already surrounded by several technology mediums that will allow us to stay connected: pre-4G LTE (UMTS Rev 8), 3G (UMTS), 2G, (EDGE, GPRS) and WiFi - do we need yet another technology (yawn)?

What advantages (if any) would WiMAX have over our existing technology base?

1) WiMAX is NOT more expensive to develop than LTE. In fact, with the recent creation of the Open Patent Alliance and the goal of capping WiMAX royalties at 10%, LTE deployments will be significantly more expensive due to higher costs of base stations, and device manufacturers will have much higher development costs (LTE is targetting 15% royalty model).

2) Intel commitment to WiMAX means that every device running an Intel chip will be capable of running on a WiMAX network . With this large potential device ecosystem, WiMAX has a very legitimate shot at being successful .

3) For those who claim that LTE is an evolution from 3G while LTE is an alternative technology - that is just nonsense. Aside from some minor differences at the MAC and PHY layers, WiMAX and LTE are strikingly similar (SAE Gateway in LTE = CSN Gateway in WiMAX, PDN Gateway in LTE = ASN Gateway in WiMAX, both use OFDM transport, similar scheduling models, QoS models, etc). There will be no backwards compatibility for LTE to legacy 3G technologies - they are using different radio technologies (3G are CDMA or TDM, not OFDM), and therefore cannot be deployed on the same spectrum. This is why AT&T and Verizon have both heavily bid at 700MHz spectrum - for LTE deployment.

4) WiMAX is not really a replacement for T1 or DS3 Bandwidth. 3G is better suited to that. Quite frankly, if you are trying to replicate a deterministic bandwidth model (TDM) using a technology meant for burstiness (IP), you will spend a ton of money building a network that is built for SIGNIFICANTLY more capacity than it will ever see.

5) For those who are claiming that the span of time between production WiMAX networks and production LTE networks is shrinking - that is a very US-biased viewpoint. WiMAX networks exist today, LTE does not begin device certification until end of 2009. There are 3 issues that I point to that cause me to question LTE's time-to-availability:

a) With HSPA+ appearing, there will be significantly less incentives for European operators to migrate to LTE when they can leverage their existing spectrum, existing BTS, and existing handsets (backwards compatible) while still providing higher-speed data services.

b) With the telecom mentality that the LTE vendors have historically worked under, they develop for the next evolution of technology, not 3 evolutions down the road. So, with most worldwide operators deploying 3.6Mbps HSPA, there is still a roadmap to 7.2Mbps HSPA, 14.4Mbps HSPA, and finally HSPA+ (3GPP R7).

c) 3GPP R8 (official standards track of LTE) is slated for Stage 2 freeze in mid-2008 with official radification of Stage 2 planned for Dec 2008. WiMAX 802.16e was radified in 2005 and we still do not fully see an interoperability standard between vendors. This points to 2010-2011 before we will reasonably see anything similar in LTE.

Finally, anyone who claims that the move to 2.5GHz from the 900MHz and 1.9GHz of 3G means that the CAPEX model for 3G is significantly better than that of WiMAX - I think that is VERY highly imprecise. There is ALWAYS a tradeoff between capacity and coverage. If you want to attain the same coverage model for WiMAX as for 3G, you are right - you will need more towers. HOWEVER, if you are looking to create the same coverage AND increase capacity, regardless of the frequency used, you will need to create smaller cells with large overlap, meaning that the size of a 1900MHz cell providing high speed data services and the size of a 2.5GHz cell providing high speed data services will be roughly equivalent. You never get something for nothing.

Broadband Technology

Posted by Telkompedia team

UK Broadband Providers have emerged in many numbers. They enable people to choose from among the various service providers. The broadband service providers offer various schemes to customers under which people can avail the best services of broadband companies.

The users of broadband service make the best use of this technology to connect to people and also download movies, videos, songs and games. The same is true for uploading, as now users can upload and share photos and videos. These photos can then be blogged on different websites.

Broadband has resulted in the evolution of services like VoIP. These services have made online telephony a high-end experience. It can be accessed at lower cost price and the user can make calls to distant places of earth. Internet telephony is normally kept free but it is dependent on the schemes of the service providers.

The users find it very commendable to make use of this technology to connect to people anywhere in the globe. Moreover, broadband can also be accessed wirelessly. The wireless technology can be accessed from any place of the world. The users usually prefer laptops in order to access broadband telephony.

As the UK market is full of broadband providers, so there is heavy competition in the market. As these service providers continuously compete with each other so there is stiff competition in the market. Some of the service providers charge for a one-time setup while other service providers do it for free. However, the users do need to sign in a connectivity contract that comprises of either a 1.5 year contract or other terms.

These contracts are further divided on the basis of plans. The plans enable people to access low capacity limits, mid capacity limits and Unlimited downloads. The first option is where the users can download upto 2-5 GB files. In mid-capacity the user can make use of 10-40 GB of space. The unlimited option obviously means unlimted downloads. But one thing that is common to all the plans is that with high speed internet access, downloading is also very fast. Thus it can be said that UK Broadband Providers have given a new definition to the world of internet telephony.
